As a little girl who came from a family of musicians and singers and adopted into a family of musicians and singers, my interest in music came as a natural. While being educated within the public school system of Brunswick, Ga., I was blessed to have two wonderful music instructors who trained me very well. Throughout my extensive training with the late Mrs. Julia Ford Massey and Mr. Leo Moored, I have accomplished many feats which includes 2nd place in the Mozart Society Competition: recipient of the late Julia Ford Massey Scholarship Fund; 1st runner-up in the NAACP-ACTSO Competition; 1st place winner for the local high school Arts Competition and 2nd runner up for the State Arts Competition. I played the piano and organ for my home church-First Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Brunswick, Ga. For 21 years. I played for various other churches over the past years until my family and I finally chose to settle down permanently in Hinesville and rest our membership with the First Calvary Church family where I immediately began to replace the holding Minister of Music position and we are still there.
Throughout my many years of playing music, my love and interest in music has only been increased and heightened as time go by. In fact, apart of my daily prayer is that God will freshly anointed my hands and my playing each and every day. While ministering to others as well as myself through my playing, I find it a joy and honor to be able to share such a precious gift as music and my love for it. I believe that music not only can “soothe the savage beast” (as the old saying goes), but it can also serve other purposes as well. It can be used for the purposes of romantic moments, entertainment (opera or plays) recitals, etc. My favorite is praise and worship. Music should be a wonderful addition to anyone’s life be it classical (example: Bach, Beethoven, Chopin), contemporary (Scott Joplin, Lionel Richie, etc.) or spiritual pieces. I believe that you can put life into music as well as it can put life and joy into our lives. Again, I say music makes the love go round. |
